Jarrad Breen wins the Welsh Open

The Mens Open Singles Champioship of Wales ended with a win for young Jarrad Breen of Gilfach Goch. Jarrad won a thrilling final against 7 times winner Jason Greenslade. At 15 years of age Jarrad becomes the youngest winner of the coveted prize taking Jeff Webley's record set in 1992.

Welsh Open Singles

The Welsh Open has progressed to timetable despite some downpours which threatened to disrupt several games. Clive and Kate Todd are to be congratulated for their organisation and hard work. Clive has now published his timetable for the Bank Holiday Monday finals.

Correction to our "Belated Congratulations" item below.

Information recently received by Email tells me that I mistakenly reported that Chris Wright was the youngest winner of the Dinas Powis Club Championship. Not so.. the youngest player to win the Club Championship was Jeff Webley back in 1989 - aged 16. Apologies first of all to Jeff and also to Chris for taking this accolade from him so cruelly.

Incidently Jeff is also the youngest player to win the Welsh Open Singles Championship, which he won in 1992 aged 19 - unless you can tell me different....

WBA President Hugh Meddins comes Home

President Hugh Meddins brought his representative team to a rain soaked Dinas Powis on Thursday 10th July. A rain delayed game was interrupted by heavy showers. It was decided to end the game after prolonged rain at about 8 ends.

Belated Congratulations

Belated Congratulations to Chris Wright who won a closely fought match against his brother David to secure the Dinas Powis Club Singles Champioship for 2007. At 17 years of age Chris is the youngest player to secure the Dinas Powis Championship.

 


Apologies - Captain's Letter Errors.

All members should have received the Captain's Letter welcoming the 2008 outdoor season. There were, in some of the letters, typographical errors for which I apologise. More importantly there was a mistake in the timing of the open evening. The correct timings are as follows.

Evening opening of green is at 6.00pm 11th April 2008.

Extraordinary Meeting of the Mens Bowling Section is at 6.30pm 11th April 2008. Agenda item will be the election of the 1st Team Captain for 2008
